They All Laughed

Today is the 75th anniversary of the release of the Fred and Ginger picture "Shall We Dance."  I don't have as much material on this film as I do earlier ones like "Top Hat", but this does have a Gershwin soundtrack, and some cool numbers.

Here's a nice shot of Ginger rehearsing the song for "They All Laughed", which I think is my favorite song from this film!  "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off" is the more famous number, and it is interesting, but geez, there's only so much even they can do on roller skates!

Here's both the song and the wonderful dance that flows from it.  Take it away, F&G!

It also includes the beautiful song "They Can't Take That Away From Me."

And the very cool final scene where Fred dances with a pack of Ginger clones, having to find the Real One hiding in there somewhere!....But Love and Dance will out....

Despite this picture, Ginger and director Mark Sandrich didn't get along very well, and after this film, she had him specifically banned for working on one of her movies again! Sadly, he passed away just 5 years later...

Not my favorite film of theirs, but still many beautiful moments!

...thanks for the great post, Ron!!!

I probably should have done one, since this is arguably my fave GandF movie... not ONLY for the obvious, but also for the 'team' of EEH and Blore...these are their funniest characters in the whole franchise...the scene of their 'meeting' for the first time is so goofy, it is hilarious!

When Ginger sings 'They All Laughed', it's perhaps my all-time fave performance...the song just fits her so right, vocally...sad they didn't let her do the 'other stanza'... but it's pretty cool knowing Cary was off-set, and that's ultimately who she was singing to...lucky punk! :-)

KIG, Ron!!!

...oh yeah, of course, 'They Can't Take That Away From Me'...really my fave GandF tune...of course, their dance to it in the Barkleys is just SO awesome, for numerous reasons...mainly since it's the last 'epic' routine they would ever do together...and tho not as many 'pyrotechnic' moves as there were a decade or so prior, still so elegant and graceful...and the arrangement of the tune in BofB is just perfect...perfect.

Oh, yeah - I guess I need to 'update' my deal, as I had the 'release' date a few days ago...Imdb had it there, anyway...well, it's in this 'general week', anyway, right? No big deal...

The girl from the "Carrie" movie should have seen that film, a few times.
