Run Lola Run

Digging around the other day, I found a poster I have for the film Run, Lola Run.  Unfolding it, I forgot how huge it really is!  (Note the dvd case by it for comparison.)  I really only have one wall of the house that could take it!  Plus, it needs to be flattened out.... Still, it's pretty cool looking.

Airlines!

Not all games are on obvious topics like war or sports....some are about running an airline.  No, really!

It's really an economic game of building networks to airports....

Using a variety of aircraft of differing costs/capabilities....

and dealing with a wide variety of issues/problems!  It's a lot of fun...plus, you get to see how odd the airline industry is....colorful, and easy to play.  Look for it!

The Creature That Ate Sheboygan!

Not all my games involve huge maps with huge numbers of pieces.  This is a very fun little game from 1979, which is basically Godzilla vs. A City.  The Godzilla player gets one piece:  Godzilla.  The City play gets a variety of units, with the traditional goal of stopping Godzilla from trashing the town.  What makes it cool is that before the game, the Godzilla player can select from a variety of Monster Powers, like Flying, Giant Leap, Make Spiderwebs, Flame Breath (of course!), and Hypnosis ( which lets you Mind Control the City units!) , amongst others.

The map is quite small...that's a quarter at the top, one of my few.  You can't have it.  I mean it....stop looking at it!

It's a very cool game that plays in about an hour, and because you can make the monster quite different each time, it has a lot of replay value.  If you can ever find it, pick it up!

Construction!

This year is the 100th anniversary of the birth of one Ginger Rogers....so, every month this year I'm going to try to put up an unusual pic of Ginger, and I'll try to find something special for her birthday itself.

The holidays are over and done with....Xmas day I spent seeing and talking to no one. (except delivery Chinese!). I did talk to Camie in the evening when I saw she had been in an accident.

New Years Day was pretty much the same way. New Years Eve was a little better, showing someone the Marx Brothers (when they had never seen them!) and having some good conversation.

So the less said about the holidays the better.

Yeah, I know I used this last year! Still good!

Yes...It is indeed the 205th anniversary of Napoleon's victory at Austerlitz! What could be more festive? Instead of merely stuffing yourself, or having to buy gifts for people, why not celebrate Victory! Find something in your life where you marshal your forces, outflank the slow-witted impediments to your greatness, and emerge Supreme.

Just remember --- you crowned yourself Emperor last year....and now...you deserve nothing less than Absolute Triumph!

Evening Enchantment

A few years ago a friend bought me a giclee print of this Maxfield Parrish painting Enchantment.

I have hanging on a wall where it looks west out the window of the front of my house....thus giving me the illusion of the fading sunlight mingling with the painting itself....I find this very comforting somehow, as the figure becomes a personalization of the end of the day. If I could I would arrange any and all art in my home this way, even if it were not really possible.

1st pitch of Game 1 of the 1968 World Series, Oct 2, 1968, Bob Gibson to Dick McAuliffe, Tigers 2nd baseman. McAuliffe was a childhood favorite due to his unusual batting stance which we would call "foot in the bucket." Plus, the eyebrows from hell! note:
