Toy Series #1

Well, here's the first of the many Toy pics that will be forthcoming...but, wait, we can't do it!

Here's a picture of George Washington instead...let's comment on the first President shall we?

Teaching...

A very sweet F&G video made from stills.

The Teaser

Yow, time flies! Well, here's my teaser for my "toy" series...

The hole in the box covers the word "Truans", which made this small box of candy when I was a lad, and now contains the "political" toy that you'll be seeing...

Stay tuned!

Christopher Walken on Golf

Golf. My God, that's a mysterious occupation. I know people who are — good friends — who are absolutely smitten, practicing their swing and talking about it. I can understand some sort of sport where your body got a benefit, like marathon running or bicycle racing. That's not golf. And not only that, but the whole business of standing in the sun — my God. That's like torture.

What a Dump!

Bette Davis knows you're there! And your friend Addison deWitt won't help you!

Poor lil' blog...

You think I've forgotten you? I haven't, honest! I've just been busy lately and today is no different! But I stumbled onto a old childhood toy and I'll be having some fun with that here, so stay tuned!

Yeah, she may go and visit over at Trooper York's, but Joan always comes back to Fluffy Stuffin'...for the love! Ain't that so, Joan? Yeah...

The New Fluffy Theme Song

Normally this would be ZZ Top's "Heard it On The X", but we have a new frontrunner!

If we can get Carmen Electra on the stripper pole, does it matter if it's Puccini on ocarinas?

Cafe Japon

Camie and I took Beanie to Cafe Japon, which is a pretty cool fusion of French and Japanese cuisine. Since we went for breakfast, I thought I'd pass it along to you...

Beanie trying hard to look cute, but looks more Bogie than Bacall!

After getting a paper butterfly, Beanie looks for things in the plants.

Beanie and Mama Vog lookin' especially sweet!

Ahh... a press pot of coffee! Excellent! Better cups than the normal Joe Holders, eh?

Beanie gets the "Japanese style" toast with strawberry jam... Looks like what we call Texas Toast! Tokyo Toast, then?

Camie goes for the brioche with the egg and Guryere cheese... very tasty!

I get the crepes with the egg in the middle and the ham and Guryere folded into the sides! Neat, eh?

An excellent place, and we'll be back!

Snoozin'

Sorry about not posting much this week; I'm in a bad sleeping pattern, and am having a hard time breaking it. Next time, when I'm up at 4:00 AM, I'll just go with the flow and write something here for y'all!

Those crazy Astaire kids just won't stop! Here's even more of their silliness...from 1926.

I think Dellie looks like Camie's daughter....80 years removed, of course!

Meanwhile, Ginger waits her turn...for what, I wonder!

Don't mind me, just feeding the spiders...

Many people find this blog through searching for pics of Scarlett Johannson. Since the mechanisms of web commerce have determined my part in the greater Interweb good, I can do naught but to make people happy. Why are you still reading this?

Crazy Old Coot!

Now here we have a role model. At this point, Errol Flynn's pickled liver has rung up a few extra miles on the odometer, but does that stop him from chasing tail? Oh, hell no! He'll Die With His Boots On.

And when he finally kicked the bucket -- at 50! Yay, we're older than Errol Flynn -- what went into the coffin with him? 6 bottles of whiskey, connecting to our last post...

Great Combo of the Day

Who doesn't like Whiskey?

Who doesn't recognize the need for condoms?

And when need meets want? Why, Whiskey-Flavored Condoms of course!

A Hat Tip to Trooper York

For all those tasty food polls...resolving the important questions of the day! Heh? What's the picture have to do with that? Not much...and?

OK!

This made me laugh out loud...especially for those who tweet!

So we combine that with a clip from one of the Saints of The House of Fun, Oscar Levant!

Paczki Day!

This is one of those pre-Lent things...and we have no less than two good providers of these little devils so I thought I'd give you the photo blog of a most excellent provider, Amadeus, here in Ann Arbor.

When Mikey and I strolled in this morning, the preorders were lined up!

More

Even More!

Stacked on the piano...

And, of course, you get friendly service along with sugary goodness! Could life be better? Doubtful.

I loaded up with the full bank of flavors...cherry, raspberry, creme, apricot...I forgot to get plum!

Mine...all mine! Until Camie comes by with Beanie...and then we'll share.

Enjoy your Fat Tuesday!

Game Map of The Day

I see one of today's threads at Althouse is games. This is a photo for all you old grognards of boardgame out there, the map from the 1978 SPI game Atlantic Wall. I put it together on my living room floor. It consists of 5 interconnected maps each of which are 22" x 34" to give an idea of the size. Invade Normandy anybody?

Question o' the day

Is there any fast food drive thru (note the proper spelling!) that still gives away sporks with the grub? Or is that an idea whose time has come and gone?

Thursday, February 19, 2009

I ain't ferget ya!

Sorry I haven't posted, even while getting my 2nd "Annsta-launche" of the week, I've been reading and writing all day long!

What are you reading lately? If you don't like a book while you're reading it, do you bail or slog on in hope? What was the last book you read you really didn't like, ultimately?

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

You go, Clyde!

So, today, over at Althouse, there was a post about a woman who fashioned a "hair dog" on the top of her head!

Well, my friend Clyde saw the post, saw her profile picture...and let's just say he dares to dream the big dream!

Let's have a nice lunch, shall we?

Yes, it's a bit late for lunch...and yes, I will post some soup recipes, but let's have ...

A nice Bloody Mary to start with....

And then...
A wonderful Caprese Salad! Let's dig in...and then take a nap.

A Fluffy Mary

2 oz of Pepper Stoli
3 oz of V8
squeeze of lemon juice
Shot of Worcestershire sauce
sprinkling of celery salt
and a celery stalk for garnish

Caprese Salad

Sliced Tomatoes, Basil, and Mozzerella disks with some olive oil...

This is dependent more on the quality of your ingredients than any particular technique...but nice arranging on the plate is a bonus!

Hey, where's my mimosa?

I know on some other blogs the misinformed thought that Darcy and I had a meet up more like this,

than the one picture of the real event implied.

But, for the record,
1.) Darcy and I are just good friends, and
2.) I don't read The Wall Street Journal.

The Fluffy Kitchen

Inspired by Trooper York's food polls, I think I will be putting some of the Ol' Ron fav recipes up here, maybe even around a theme or two...Is there any type of thing you want to see in particular?
leave it in the comment section.

There's a skunk in my yard!

No, this is not a literary device, or a reference to any Althouse commenters...there's a skunk doing his skunk thang in my yard.

At first I was going to say this a downer for what is a great day on the history of this blog, with the smell and all, but...I realize that the skunks foreshadow spring better than any groundhog! They wouldn't be out there making a stink [!] if they didn't get it in their heads that warmer weather was coming! So we have that to look forward to. Skunks=shorter winter! Think about that one...

Ah, it's all good here, today!

Meet Up!

Throughout all these years of blogging, I've yet to actually met someone whom I've shared commenting space with; talked to a number of you on the phone, (yeah, this means you Cynnie!) but not met with a one of you...until today!

I met Darcy on Althouse, but really she's the Holly Golightly of commenters,

Darcy

showing up all over the place; I can't keep up! But not only did she agree to meet up with me for breakfast, it was her treat, as a belated birthday gift. So, natch, since she hadn't been there we went to Zingerman's for latkes and bacon. So I look up and see Darcy -- fantastic! And I look at the plate and...

Latkes

(sorry forgot to get a pic of the bacon, but trust me, that pig did not die in vain!)

A good time was had by us both; she's a mighty cool person, and Trooper, you treat her well!

Some bum who forgot to shave.
Darcy, again, minus the tiara and the cig holder for purposes of the photo.

yeah, I found this Holly post and I put it up because...it's from Holly on the Ed Sullivan show, only 5 days before this here blogger was brought into the world...

The Birthday Cupcake!

from sweet Camie!

Saturday, January 31, 2009

Tres, tres bon!

It was a wonderful birthday party...people came, it was fun, then we repaired back to the House of Fun to all watch Reservoir Dogs, Apocalypse Now!, and even parts of Triumph of The Will (don't ask!) all while carrying great discussion. What better birthday could one have? I boldly made the promise that if I ever get serious green, I'll move the party to NYC one year! Don't think I'll do it? I will.

The Family Cam appeared, but alas, couldn't stay, as poor Beanie got sick, for the first time ever!
We love them all, Camie with special fondness... Here we soupcan her image...enjoy!

Coffee with Lorelai? Anytime, baby...

Cream? Sugar? Both, please!

Lauren Graham at Sundance

Michigan? No, Michegos!

So it snows. The University, in its wisdom, says, 'Hey let's load up our shoveled snow, put it in dump trucks (a vehicle know for its quiet subtlety) and put it in front of Ron's house, all night long, with a tractor to move the huge mountains of snow, so we can have room for even more!' My floorboards rattle from the plow shoving it around, and when they back up? That utterly charming toot toot toot noise is just perfect for sleeping! The tank rumblings bring about a kind of Stalingrad vibe, just perfect for winter...
